How to fix the iPad on the logo screen?

As mentioned above, the process of fixing a stuck iPad differs for different models, and it is because some models come with FaceID while some come with TouchID. So depending on the presence or absence of the home button, the process differs.

We have different fixes for this situation, and depending upon the gravity of the issue, the fixes differ. So follow the fixes according to the guide, starting with the lightest(no data loss) process to the heaviest(data loss) one.

If you see a progress bar below the logo, it means that your iPad is installing a new software update or is performing a restore. In this scenario, it is just best to do nothing at all and just plug the iPad to a power adapter. If it is just installing an update, then it will complete the process after a while and then restart automatically after that and take you to your desktop.

Maybe you set the setting to download and install the update automatically, and that’s what is doing. That should be the case if you suddenly see the logo screen with a progress bar. So just let it do its thing and complete everything on its own. Now for some reason, if it stays like that for an hour or so with no changes to the progress bar or maybe the progress bar disappeared, then follow the procedure for the different fixes mentioned below and see which one works for your device.

  • Force restart the iPad:

The force restart method varies for different models depending on the fact if there is a home button or not.

Force restart the iPad:

For the iPad Pro 11″ and iPad Pro 12.9″ (2018 and newer), there is no home button. So press and release the volume up button. Then press and release the volume down button and then hold on to the side power button until the device restarts.

For iPad, iPad Air, iPad mini, and older iPad Pro, there is a home button. So press and hold the home button and the power side button simultaneously until the device forcefully restarts.

This fix works most of the time, and it is safe, too, as there is no data loss. After the force restart is completed, you should see your lock screen or home screen again.

  • Update or restore with recovery mode:

With the recovery mode trick, you will need a Windows PC or Mac. If you are using Cataline on your Mac, then you will need the latest version of Finder, else install the latest version of iTunes. Once you have that, connect your iPad to your PC via USB cable.

Update or restore with recovery mode:

For iPad Pro with FaceID, open up iTunes or Finder depending on your OS. Then press and hold the power button and the volume UP button until the “Slide to Power Off” screen appears once it does turn your iPad off. Now hold the power button again and don’t let it go until your iPad is in recovery mode. Now you will see an update option on your PC’s screen. Click on it, and your iPad will start updating itself to the latest version. This will take some time around twenty minutes, and if everything goes well, then your iPad should successfully boot and take you into the Lockscreen or Homescreen.

For iPad with Home button, open up iTunes or Finder depending on your OS. Then press and hold the power button until the “Slide to Power Off” screen appears. Once it does, turn your iPad off. Now hold the home button and don’t let it go until your iPad is in recovery mode. Now you will see an update option on your PC’s screen. Click on it, and your iPad will start updating itself to the latest version. This will take some time around twenty minutes, and if everything goes well, then your iPad should successfully boot and take you into the Lockscreen or Homescreen.

For some reason, if the update option does not work for you, then try clicking the restore button. This will erase all the data on your iPad and restore it to the way it was when you first bought it. You will lose data with the restore mode though, so make sure to have a backup of your entire data before trying this so that you can restore the backup once the process of restore via recovery mode is completed.

  • Erase & Restore iPad with DFU Mode:

If all the previous methods fail, then you can try this method. However, with this method, you will surely lose all the data on your iPad, so make sure that you have a backup of the entire device before trying this method. You can then restore that backup file, and then all your data will be safe.

Erase & Restore iPad with DFU Mode:

For iPad with a home button, connect your iPad to your PC via USB and then open up iTunes or Finder depending upon your OS. Press and hold the power button and the home button together for 10 seconds, and then after 10 seconds, let go of the power button. Remember to keep holding on to the home button for another 5 seconds. After that, you will see an option to restore the iPad with iTunes, choose that, and all your data on the iPad will be removed, and it will be set up back to the way it was when it was new. For iPad without a home button, connect your iPad to your PC via USB and then open up iTunes or Finder depending upon your OS. Press and release the volume up button, and then press and release the volume down button and then hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Now holding on to the Power button, press and hold the volume down button for another 5 seconds. Now release the button but keep holding on to the volume down button for another 10 seconds. Now you will see a message on your PC saying a device has been detected in recovery mode. There you will see an option to restore, click on it and it will erase all data on your iPad and set it up as new.

Now restore the backup file you had stored before or simply continue using the iPad like that with its default setup.
