People get internet connection from various sources. Some of them use a mobile hotspot, and others may use WiFi while many use broadband. The users who use the broadband network mostly use the ethernet cable or forward the connection to a router. So that all the members in a place can enjoy high-speed network. Some of the users who use this type of connection have reached out to us, as they are fed up with the notification “Ethernet Doesn’t have a valid IP Configuration.”

So if you are one of them you are in the right place. Today we will discuss the problems that cause this issue and give the fixes accordingly. So let’s get started.

What causes Ethernet to Not Have a Valid IP Configuration?

The leading cause behind this the Network Interface Card is unable to get a valid internet protocol or IP. Which is further connected to the router or modem with the help of Ethernet Cable. The IP is required by the computer to interact with the router and thus connect to the internet. The main problems that cause this issue are:

  • A faulty router
  • Incorrect IP Address
  • A faulty Network Interface Card

Now we know the reason behind this Ethernet issue, so now we can move on to fix them.

How to Fix Ethernet Doesn’t Have a Valid IP Configuration?

Now we will discuss the fixes, and we recommend to follow them in the order we discuss them. So you need to follow them sequentially. We will discuss a total of 5 fixes. Let’s start.

Fix 1: Restart the System

Restarting the system is probably the best and the easiest way to solve this issue. But most importantly, you need to disable the “fast startup” option. Fast startup interrupts in solving many problems. Follow the steps below to perform a restart in the way we want you to do.

  • Click on the start button
  • Now in the search box, type Control Panel and open it
  • In the control panel, look out for hardware and sound
  • In the hardware and sound window, click on “Choose what the power buttons do” in the top left panel
  • Then click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • After that, un-check the box at the bottom written “Fast Startup.”
  • Click on Save Changes
  • Then proceed to restart the computer.

After doing this, your problem might be solved. If not follow below for more fixes

Fix 2: Check Network Adapter Settings

The router assigns the IP address automatically every time. In case you have chosen to manually enter the IP address, then you should set it to automatic first then proceed with the below steps.

  • Click on windows+R button together to open the Run dialogue box
  • In the run dialogue box, type “ncpa.cpl” and press enter
  • Network adapter settings window will open, in that window right click on Network Adapter and select Properties
  • Then in the ethernet properties window, click on Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) then click on properties
  • The next window will be the properties of  (TCP/IPv4), from here select: Obtain an IP Address Automatically and Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically

This will do the trick. Now restart your computer to see whether the problem is solved or not. If not, proceed with the next fix.

Fix 3: Reboot the Router or Modem

Rebooting the router or the modem, as well as checking for the ethernet cable, will also solve the issue most of the time. Firstly, turn off the router or the modem. If both are there, turn off both. Then wait for at least 10 minutes to switch it on. After turning on both the devices, restart your PC to check if there is a valid ethernet connection or not. If not, check the RJ45 port or try to replace the ethernet cable with the other one. You can also check the ethernet cable connection in the female jack.

If the problem still persists, you may need to replace the Network card. Before buying a new Network Card, we recommend doing a system reset to ensure nothing wrong from your end. Now proceed with the next fix, if this has not helped you solve your issue.

Fix 4: Reset Network Settings
