How to fix Resource Monitor not working in Windows 10?

Try all of these solutions one after the other, and indeed one of them will fix your Resource Monitor issue.

Run Resource Monitor:

Sometimes Windows kills programs in the background if there is too much load put into the CPU. And even if you have not shut down your PC in a while, even then, Windows acts up and terminates programs running in the background. That may be the case for you too. So can try running the program manually.

  • Press Windows Key + R to open up the Run dialog box.
  • In the dialog box, enter “resmon.exe” and press Enter. It will start the Resource Monitor.

You can also try opening the program directly by accessing the Windows folder in your system drive.

  • Go to local disk C.
  • Open the Windows folder.
  • Open the System32 folder.
  • Look for the file “resmon.exe,” and when you find it, open it up.

If manually opening the executable file did not fix your issues with the resource monitor program, then try the next fix mentioned below.

Uninstall the latest update:

As mentioned above, sometimes, a recent update can also disable the functionality of the resource monitor program. So you can try uninstalling this latest update to fix it.

  • Press Windows Key + I, and it will open up settings on your PC.

  • Now click on Update & Security.

  • Click on the Windows Update tab in the left pane.

  • On the right side, click on Update History.

  • Then click on Uninstall updates.

  • Then in the list containing information on the latest windows updates, find the most recent one after which your resource monitor program stopped working and uninstall it.

  • Restart your computer and then try opening Resource Monitor again.

If you still see issues with the Resource Monitor, then try the next potential solution.

Run Resource Monitor in Command Prompt:

Some users have reported that they were able to fix the issue by opening the program from the command prompt. So it would be best if you gave that a try too.

  • Click on the search icon at the bottom and enter “cmd.”
  • Then right-click on the result that shows up and choose the option Run as administrator.
  • User access control may ask for permission here. Grant it.
  • In the command line, enter: “perfmon/report” and press Enter.
